but this time the fire is caused by me ... and not my heater. i do have renter's insurance, so if anything happens i'll get money to buy another canon eos 1ds, mark iii, and all my l-lenses : ) (of course truth be told ... and i didn't get her new.)
anyway, what's the best way of going through books of matches??
throw them in a glass!
i was playing around with various ideas, and this came to me. i actually wanted to throw a stainless steel cross in there. but i want to get the fire down first.
it's amazing where ideas come from. for class we have to shoot our initial ideas using various lighting sources, and i played with candle fire. i even melted my mask for some cool photos -- to follow soon! at the same time, i dumped a few pins in an empty wine glass (another idea i'm working on), and the fire and wine glass came to me.
cost of this shot: small glass -- free (left behind from previous tenet); book of matches -- really cheap.

I hope it didn't burn your garden. You know...the one in your closet...
i'm glad the garden in my closet, you know, the one with the hanging monet painting next to it, was spared by this fire.
didn't your mom tell you "never play with matches" love, mom
i shouldnt post what my teacher sent me in an email ... but i will: "Liquor puts off a blue flame. There isn’t any real red too it so it will be very hard to capture. You’d have to use something like Lighter fluid or gas to get a good flame. That is really dangerous Dave, especially when using glass. The heat could cause the glass to break then you have burning gas running all over the place. Sound like I’m talking from experience? You bet. "
