jeff and jen

my bro jeff and my soon to be sister in law (bro and sis for short) gave me the honor of shooting pre-wedding pictures of them. thank you so much!! you two were amazing to shoot. the beautiful background (sun setting at the beach) would have been trivial if it wasn't for you two and the love you have for each other. thank you! but now i'm getting sappy, and i'm too cool for that ;-)

more to come.

new ideas!

below are two versions of the same idea. kind of like watching kenneth branagh's "hamlet" and mel gibson's "hamlet" back to back. trust me.

alone

alone

for our last assignment, dave wanted us to take a concept he has done, and reshoot it. that was tough, because i love all of his work. but then i remembered from my writing days, and how i would copy william tester

i love this!!

this snack time gift kit is awesome! it comes with everything you could ever want in a kit: peanut butter, crackers, jelly ... oh, and kool aid.

it's great! i love it! thanks to karen of quickits and just in case gift kits fame, who gave me this! thank you!!

to note:
the peanut butter and crackers are gone! not at the same time, mind you.

jelly is half gone ... don't ask.

and ... uh ... the kool aid packet ... i wanted a coffee packet!

various snapshots with my point and shoot

you know, i really ever show you my apt besides ... well ... beisides me, slash, and my 20d. so first up, here's a look inside my fridge:

pretty scary, huh?? if you know any other artist, his/her fridge probably looks very similar.
that's it for now. please stay tuned for more!

i usually have either my 20d or my lumix point and shoot on me (sometimes both. i'm weird). here are random shots taken with my lumix this week.

there are some things you do just to say you did them ... well, i went up to rhode island. i did nothing in that state. but i went up there.

needless to say -- nyc.

early in the week, my nephew and i were outside putting cobwebs on the trees of my parents' house (he loves decorating for halloween!! oh, i love him even more!)

isn't he so cute!!

his ultra cool uncle

and i grabbed this snapshot, too. i'd like to call this image "believe".

at the milford duck pond yesterday. for only 5mp she isn't bad!

yes, that's my shadow. it was harsh sunlight, and i had to create a shadow to better capture the image. plus it's my shadow! if i was lame, i would file this under self portrait!!

new idea, new test shots!!

test shots of a new idea i'm working on.

so far it's called shattered idea. but that name might change.

also, i took a photography marketing class last night, and i may be changing my watermarking -- making it more like what i had before (see my oldest and older posts). i may not use the whole: "dp photography" and just use "dp" -- but i have to play around with it and see. stay tuned. some of what he went over was pretty scary.

for all the curious

my new scarf ...

i went to a photography store, too, and looked around. i held an ef 28mm, 2.8 (wide angle) lens. wow! she was very, very nice!! but she was $269.00!!! but i still debated, and thought about going without food for a few weeks.

(quick note: a wide angle lens is much needed for photographing buildings)

nyc

here are recent photos from my vacation (read: spiritual quest) into nyc!

i'm trying to grow as an all around artist-photographer, so where else would i go to get away for the day and emmerse myself in photography??

i'm new to the street photography branch, so please bear with me. these photos are not going to be anything near what henri cartier-bresson did. but this is my first time, and he's one of the best!

please note: these pictures are not "developed" to my liking. all i did was basically convert m raw images to jpegs just to post them fast. i have to go back into the digital darkroom to touch up a few details. i hope you enjoy.

i couldn't leave nyc without buying something from a store on 5th ave ... ok, that sounds like a gay statement. but i bought a $5.90 scarf from h&m. (they have two locations on 5th ave!!)

a shoeshine stand!! how could i not take a picture of this?!

unlike new haven, and everywhere else, squirrels in nyc actually come up to you! this one in particular climbed on my lap. what's funny is that once i pulled out the camera, she fled. we would play a game: i would hide the camera, she'd come to me, then i would have to click fast, because she'd bolt once she'd see the camera!

(*geek alert*)
remember the sceen in empire strikes back when yoda rummages through luke's stuff??

i'm going to try this in black and white and see how it looks.

the american flag was everywhere!

i had no idea where central park was ... i'm not very good with directions. so after i located it (long story there), they had horse-pulled carriages!

mystic

i'm on vacation from my day job, and i'm taking random trips. today was mystic!

this dude was cool. first off: i was in a "staff only" area (there was a sign, but no rope!), but was cool about it. and then, when i asked if he was taking his boat out, he said yup, and that he'd do a "boat wave" ... although, he did it far off in the ocean, and i couldn't capture it (only had my 50mm lens).

i was all excited about a lighthouse at the seaport ... only it was a tiny lighthouse (read: puny, small). as my nephew and i would say: LAME! i want a refund!

people were allowed on two boats. and despite all my begging and bribing, one worker wouldn't allow me on the way top. she was cool about it, though.

this awesome statue was on someone's boat! i wanted to steal it. oops, that's the new havener in me talking!

for the curious minded or for the bored ...

my studio ...

(in action is me photographing quickits. they are not currently open, but they are awesome kits, and are worth the wait! keep on checking!)

my baby

one, two, three: awwwww

(this is her "the f-ing camera, again" look. she's probably wishing her daddy wasn't a photographer.)

she's here!!

my canon speedlite 420ex flash has arrived, by the ever so kind ups man!

she can even stand on her head!! what more can you ask for??

she's all business.

of course, slash made short work of the box she came in.

thinking she's hiding.

she decided to give the packaging tape a lick. ewwwww
