two new images!!

my nephew got this for his birthday, and i'm hooked on it! of course, i can't solve it. went on you tube and saw speedsters -- people who can solve the rubiks cube in under a minute!! talk about having no life. ... as opposed to me, who played around with various lighting techniques. the only light here is a flashlight. pretty cool, huh??

this photo was inspired by one my teacher has, which evoked something in me. and while i was doing my own mask-images, this one formed. all the lights i have kept glaring off the mask. but this photo comes from an overcast sky providing my only light!

as a side note. i thought all liquor burns. so why when i kept trying to light a martini glass with dubra was the fire dying?? i had all different levels of dubra -- from the glass filled with it, to a coating on the inside. and nothing. the matches kept dying.

a fire in my apt -- again!!

but this time the fire is caused by me ... and not my heater. i do have renter's insurance, so if anything happens i'll get money to buy another canon eos 1ds, mark iii, and all my l-lenses : ) (of course truth be told ... and i didn't get her new.)

anyway, what's the best way of going through books of matches??

throw them in a glass!

i was playing around with various ideas, and this came to me. i actually wanted to throw a stainless steel cross in there. but i want to get the fire down first.

it's amazing where ideas come from. for class we have to shoot our initial ideas using various lighting sources, and i played with candle fire. i even melted my mask for some cool photos -- to follow soon! at the same time, i dumped a few pins in an empty wine glass (another idea i'm working on), and the fire and wine glass came to me.

cost of this shot: small glass -- free (left behind from previous tenet); book of matches -- really cheap.

the excitement builds

i recently purchased a lamp to play around with in my pictures, and look at the results below:

i had to put my 20d on the tripod, while i used a slow shutter speed (2 secs). with the shutter open for a while, i moved the lamp in a half arch manner over the lamp. i didn't buy a hood for the lamp, so i wrapped my black scraf around the buld, to dim the light. notice how nice a warm this photo looks. ahhhhhh.....

this photo in comparison used the camera's flash. i'll write down the settings when i have more time. i think 1/160, f/5.6. this photo has more of a cold, hard feeling to it.

lamp and cameras and no life

because my apt is badly lite, i had to invest in a lamp for my photography. and yup, got it on the cheap!! stay tuned for photos where i test its photographic qualities. my 20d might protest, though, because she wanted a flash.

and here's happy couple

and look who came out of retirement to take the picture!!!

... okay, i need a life... :-/

happy birthday!!

happy birthday!!

a new bag!

well, after much thought, i broke down and bought a new bag. as most of you know, i'm like a chick, and i'm always carrying around a messenger bag with me, filled with stuff that i probably will not use, but feel i need. and, i don't do purses. (although, i think kohls is getting man-purses. i don't know. but i broke the rumor here first -- remember that!)

this is me with my new manly messenger bag

yup -- swiss. i don't skimp on myself : )

and slash with her new bag. she's having more fun with it.

she thinks i don't see her : )

awwwwww

new work!!

shadows
av mode, f/22, 6s (no flash, one lamp light)

happy halloween
m mode, f/3.5, 1/125s (three lamp lights and flash)

who am i?
m mode, f/4.5, 1/60s (lamps, but no flash)

funny, i initially wanted to comment and post my emotions of where i was next to each photo, but i'm not. maybe i will tell people my emotions in time, but right now, i can't. sometimes it is easier opening up with images than with actual words. plus, i want people to feel their own emotions to each photo, without my emotions clogging that connection. enjoy.

(side note: these images haven't been photoshop. i'm a purest in the sense that i'll use photoshop for darkroom stuff -- lighting, etc -- but never add any element -- cut and paste, etc -- without telling you first. plus it's a lot harder, and a lot more fun and creative, to try and achieve your emotions without the hand of god photoshop.)

conceptional, emotional photography

i'm taking a conceptional, emotional photography class, and it has really opened my eyes to the emotional connectedness between photographer and camera, and how to reveal my emotions through images, and how to connect with the viewer. i now understand more clearly the pure artistic side to photography. i will definitely be posting more emotional images, finished ones and more "drafts" over time. keep checking.

east haven's fall festival

i finally got around photoshopping my classic car photos. i would go on here, and say something incredibly witty and ingenious, but i won't, and let you all enjoy the pictures.

same car as in the photo above it, but in photoshop i turned it black and white. thanks to karen for her advice in helping me see that the original photo was a tad red!

added a nice flair in photoshop : )

i though adding film grain would suit this car

there's something about this photo. it comes from seeing all three of the same car lined up. there was actually five in a row (i'm standing in front of one!). long story short: a group of people were huddled around the furthest one, and so i just took these three.

sometimes i wished they would close the hood!!

it's a blue bug!!!!!!!!!!!

yup, the raised hood. again.

good reading

yes, everyone, i am (finally) a published author!

i sent out countless pieces, and got back more rejections than my entire high school dating scene!!

but unlike high school, someone didn't reject me!!

(no i haven't forgotten the car pictures. they are to follow soon!)

east haven fair

amazingly the east haven fair wasn't lame today!! they had a good classic car show -- even closed down half of a main street for all the classic cars. here's a little taste for what my next post will feature!!
